Portable air compressor test results
Every portable air compressor we measured in one table: fill times, gauge error, duty cycle, noise and price, tested on the same tire and gauge.
Every unit below was timed on the same 225/65R17 tire at 66–68°F and checked against the same calibrated digital gauge. Nothing here is a manufacturer claim — if a number is missing, we did not measure it and we say so rather than estimate. The full procedure is on how we test.

Inflation speed
The spread is wider than most buyers expect: the fastest unit we tested is 2.5× quicker on a routine top-up than the slowest, and the gap grows on a completely flat tire. If you only ever add a few PSI, speed matters less than convenience. If you deal with a full flat on a shoulder, it matters a lot.

Gauge accuracy
A gauge that reads high is the most common way people end up under-inflated: you stop when the dial says 35 PSI and the tire is actually at 31. Digital units dominated this test.

Duty cycle and heat
Duty cycle decides whether a compressor can do all four tires in one go. Units rated for a 25-minute run or continuous use finished a full set in our testing; the 10-minute units needed a cooldown after roughly two tires.
Quietest units
Measured at one metre on a hard floor. Anything above 88 dB is genuinely unpleasant inside a garage.
