Most shoppers only need to answer three questions before buying: how big is the tire you inflate most often, do you have a live 12V socket within reach, and how much noise you are willing to tolerate. A 120 PSI unit with a 2-minute fill time is overkill for a compact car; a budget inflator that needs 12 minutes to top up an SUV tire will frustrate you long before it fails.
Beyond pressure ratings, check the duty cycle — the amount of runtime before the unit must cool — and whether the gauge is analog or digital. Analog gauges drift, digital gauges are easier to hit exactly on a target pressure. If you inflate bike tires or sports equipment, confirm the package includes a Presta adapter and a needle, because proprietary adapters are expensive to replace later.
