About PumpGauge

PumpGauge is an independent buying-guide site for portable tire inflators, tire pressure gauges, air-down tools, and related roadside gear. We help drivers and overlanders choose tools that match tire volume, power source, and routine — without inventing lab benches we did not run.

Who we are

PumpGauge Editorial publishes editorial guides from United States. Named bylines appear on articles and in our authors directory. Bios describe editorial focus (inflators, gauges, overland air-down, jump packs) — not fabricated certifications or white-coat lab roles. When we do not have consented photography, we show initials instead of stock or AI-styled portraits.

Today the public site covers roughly 16 guides and compares plus a catalog of 163 products. Catalog prices and listing ratings last verified October 30, 2026. Readers who only need a cold-tire number can skip the guides and use the PSI calculator directly.

What we publish

• Guides — shortlists for daily driving, pickups, RVs, cordless kits, and pressure tools, with clear “buy / skip” boundaries.
• Compare pieces — head-to-head scorecards grounded in listing specs and owner themes, not invented composite “lab scores.”
• Gear catalog — SKU pages for fit context and current list price. Thin catalog pages are noindex; ranking focus stays on guides and compares.
• PSI calculator — a cold-tire pressure helper for load, temperature, and surface — one of the few interactive tools in this niche.

How we evaluate products

Every public recommendation follows the same rules:

• Published specs first. PSI ceilings, hose length, power type, duty-cycle claims, and list prices come from retailer or manufacturer listings we can re-check. Missing values stay blank.
• Owner voice is attributed. When we paraphrase public reviews, we label them. We do not invent testimonials or star ratings.
• Fit over hype. Guides say who a tool is for and who should skip it (truck/RV volume, cold-weather battery drain, trail air-up flow).
• No pay-for-rank. Affiliate links never buy a higher placement or a rewritten “win.” We can recommend against a SKU while still linking to it.

Bylines map to category specialists. We do not display AI-styled portrait photography; trust the written bio and the article method notes instead.

• Alex Rivera — founding editor — Founding editor at PumpGauge since the site’s first catalog build. Focus: cross-category tire-pressure tools, how we disclose affiliates, and keeping buy/skip language honest. Does not claim a private instrument lab.
• Jordan Cole — Portable compressor specialist. Compares 12V, AC, and cordless inflators on duty cycle, hose reach, and roadside practicality using listing specs and owner themes — not staged fill timers we did not run.
• Maya Chen — Pressure-gauge editor. Digital vs dial workflows, bleed valves, and TPMS cross-checks for cars and RVs. Emphasizes verifying any gauge against a known reference before chasing 1–2 PSI.
• Sam Okonkwo — Overlanding tire-pressure editor. Air-down / air-up systems, deflators, and trail-ready compressors for trucks and 4x4s. Prioritizes tire volume and reset-to-street routine over max-PSI marketing.
• Riley Park — Jump-starter and dual-purpose pack reviewer. Peak amps, safety basics, and when a pack with a built-in inflator is worth the trunk weight versus carrying two dedicated tools.

How we are funded

PumpGauge earns commissions as an Amazon Associate (and similar partnerships) when you follow a product link and make a qualifying purchase. Affiliate relationships are disclosed at the top of articles, near buy links, and in the site footer. Commission size does not change catalog specs, owner-voice selection rules, or shortlist order.

Independence & corrections

We do not accept payment to invent a “best of” ranking. Brand outreach is welcome for factual corrections (wrong ASIN, discontinued model, misread duty cycle). Corrections are applied in the shared catalog so they propagate to gear pages and future article builds — see the changelog. Primary references for cold-tire practice and gauge accuracy framing include NHTSA tire guidance and ANSI B40-series gauge classes — full list on methodology.
