The Kensun AC/DC Portable Air Compressor sits in the same niche as the Avid Power AC/DC but about $10 cheaper and a step behind on performance. For a household with two cars and a garage outlet, that trade-off is often worth taking.
Who it suits
Kensun's dual-power design targets the person who wants one inflator for everything: tire top-ups in the driveway on mains power, emergency fills on the road from a 12V socket, and the occasional air mattress at a campsite. It covers all three without complaint, provided you accept it is a generalist rather than a specialist.
If you only ever inflate tires beside the car, a single-power 12V inflator such as the EPAuto is lighter and cheaper. If you want cordless freedom, the Ryobi P737D is the more convenient tool.

The AC mode is the one to use at home: it is 25 seconds quicker on a typical top-up and, more importantly, it does not sag as the motor heats up. On DC the fourth consecutive tire took nearly 20% longer than the first, which is typical of cigarette-plug compressors running at the edge of a 15A fuse.
Gauge accuracy is the weakest aspect. Ours read 2.5 to 3 PSI high when new, and by month four the error at 30 PSI had grown to about 4 PSI — enough to leave a tire meaningfully under-inflated if you trust the dial. Budget for a separate gauge.
Build quality and ownership
The Kensun feels like a $50 tool and no more, but it is not flimsy. The housing is rigid, the hose fittings are crimped rather than push-fit, and the carry bag has survived being crammed into a trunk. The cylinder area gets hot after six or seven minutes of running, which the 10-minute duty cycle acknowledges.
The thermal cut-off worked correctly every time we pushed it: the compressor stopped, stayed off for roughly four minutes, then restarted without needing a power cycle. That is a small thing, but cheap inflators frequently fail this test and cook their motors instead.
The AC cord is short at around 4 ft, and the hose stiffens below 32°F. Neither is a dealbreaker, but both are things you notice on a cold morning.
Where it falls short
Accuracy and speed. Against the Avid Power it loses on both, and against the AstroAI it loses the digital preset as well. What it retains is price: for under $50 you get two power sources and a complete accessory kit, which is a genuinely useful combination for a household rather than a single-car owner.

If your priority is the lowest price for a dual-power inflator that works reliably, yes. If you can stretch to the Avid Power, do — you get better speed, a stronger duty cycle and slightly better gauge behaviour for about $10 more.

Barely. From flat to 35 PSI on a 225/65R17 took 9 minutes 45 seconds, which sits right at the limit of the 10-minute duty cycle. For a fully flat tire, we would rather use a battery-clamp compressor or a service station.
How accurate is the Kensun pressure gauge?
