Avid Power AC/DC vs Kensun AC/DC: which dual-power compressor?
Both of these run from a wall outlet or a 12V socket, which makes them the natural pick for a household that wants one compressor for the garage and the car.
We measured both in both power modes, and the ordering stays the same either way.

Inflation speed
The Avid Power is quicker in both modes: 3 min 05 s on AC against 3 min 40 s, and 3 min 20 s on DC against 4 min 05 s. From flat the gap widens to 1 min 35 s on AC. The Avid also holds its speed better across several tires — on DC it lost about 10 percent by the fourth tire while the Kensun sagged more.
Gauge accuracy and noise
A genuine tie: both read 2.5 PSI high at a true 30 PSI in our testing, and neither has an auto shut-off. Budget a separate gauge with either one. Noise is within a decibel (86 dB against 87 dB).
Power, runtime and ownership
The Avid has the better duty cycle at 15 minutes on against 10, which matters if you rotate tires in one session. The Kensun is lighter at 4.1 lb against 4.9 lb and costs $10 less. Our Kensun unit’s gauge error grew to about 4 PSI by month four, so it needs periodic re-checking; the Kensun’s thermal cut-off did behave correctly every time we pushed it.
Which should you buy?
Avid Power AC/DC is the faster unit and Avid Power AC/DC has the more accurate gauge. Kensun AC/DC is the cheaper of the two.
Buy the Avid Power if you want the better version of the same idea. For about $10 more you get consistently faster fills, a 50 percent longer duty cycle and a gauge error that has not drifted in our testing.
Buy the Kensun if the budget is fixed at under $50. It is a competent dual-power compressor and it is lighter to carry, but accept the slower fills and re-check the gauge every few months.
