Best Value Jump Starters: NEXPOW vs NOCO Picks

Value isn't the lowest price—it's cranking power, safety, and cold-weather reliability per dollar. I rank six jump starters by cost per amp, cost per cubic-inch of pack, and real owner outcomes, with NEXPOW and NOCO leading the value frontier.
What value means on this list
Value here is not the lowest sticker price. It is what you pay per unit of usable cranking power, per cubic inch of pack volume, and per verified cold-weather start. I use three formulas: cost per peak amp (list price ÷ peak amps), cost per amp-hour of lithium capacity where the brand publishes it (list price ÷ Wh), and cost per PSI of inflator accuracy for combo units (list price ÷ ±PSI spec). For jump starters without an inflator, the third metric is replaced by cost per safety feature—reverse-polarity protection, over-current cutoff, and temperature cutoff—scored 0–3.
Data comes from current list prices, historical low prices, and owner reviews on the product pages. I do not invent test scores. Where a brand does not publish watt-hours or CCA, I note that and rely on owner-reported engine sizes and temperatures. The goal is to show where spending more buys reliability you can measure, not just a bigger number on the box.
- Cost per peak amp = list price ÷ peak amps (lower is better, but only within the same safety class).
- Cost per Wh = list price ÷ published watt-hours (if unpublished, mark as N/A).
- Cost per PSI accuracy = list price ÷ ±PSI (inflator combos only).
- Safety score = reverse-polarity + over-current + temperature cutoff (0–3).
Where the value frontier sits
The sweet spot for 2026 is $80–$120 list, or $48–$60 on a historical low. In that band you get 3000A–6000A peak, a real safety cutoff, and enough capacity to start a V6 or small diesel after months of storage. Below $60 list, you usually lose either the safety cutoff or the cold-weather margin. Above $120, you are paying for brand, packaging, or a larger pack that most gas owners never need.
In this six-unit set, four candidates sit inside the $80–$120 list band: NEXPOW 3000A, NOCO GB40, OXILAM 6000A, and S ZEVZO ET03. Two sit at or above $100: Povasee 5000A and NOCO GB150. The historical lows matter: NEXPOW has dropped to $47.47, NOCO GB40 to $59.99, OXILAM to $59.99, and S ZEVZO to $53.99. NOCO GB150 and Povasee have not shown a meaningful discount in the data provided, so their value depends on whether you need their specific strengths.
- Value frontier: $80–$120 list, $48–$60 historical low.
- Candidates in band: 4 of 6.
- Above band: 2 of 6 (NOCO GB150, Povasee 5000A).
The picks, ranked by value
Rank 1 — NEXPOW 3000A Peak. List $79.99, low $47.47. Cost per peak amp at list: $0.0267; at low: $0.0158. Owner Anna reported storing it in her car for many months, finding it still at 100%, and starting a friend's car on the first try. Nicole wright called it 'great bang for buck.' That is the definition of value: it held charge in storage, required no special procedure, and worked when needed. Safety score 2 (reverse polarity and over-current; no published temperature cutoff). Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown, with a small sample. The trade-off is no inflator and no published Wh, so cost per Wh is N/A.
Rank 2 — NOCO Boost GB40 1000A. List $89.99, low $59.99. Cost per peak amp at list: $0.0900; at low: $0.0600. It costs more per amp than the NEXPOW, but owner El reported starting a dead battery in under a minute, waiting 3–5 minutes only when the battery was 'really, really dead,' and leaving it for six months over winter with no charge loss. That storage reliability is the value. Safety score 3 (UltraSafe reverse polarity, over-current, temperature). Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown. If you want the lowest cost per amp, this is not it; if you want the lowest cost per verified cold-start, it competes.
Rank 3 — S ZEVZO ET03 4000A. List $93.98, low $53.99. Cost per peak amp at list: $0.0235; at low: $0.0135. Owner Daymond Holmes connected it at 70% charge to a completely dead V6 and the engine started without hesitation. DHFansler said it works from small cars to a work van and can power electronics. DBCC_WED noted 'plenty of power.' Safety score 2. Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown. The value is high because the low price is close to the NEXPOW low while offering more peak amps, but the brand's long-term storage reputation is less established in the reviews provided.
Rank 4 — OXILAM 6000A. List $89.99, low $59.99. Cost per peak amp at list: $0.0150; at low: $0.0100. This is the lowest cost per amp in the set. Owner Miguel Mclaughlin highlighted the compact size, charge display, flashlight, and power bank function. Adan Trevizo called it a 'great product.' Safety score 2. Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown. The catch: 6000A peak is a big claim, and the reviews do not include a cold-weather diesel start. If you need proven 10°F diesel performance, the Povasee review is stronger evidence.
Rank 5 — Povasee 5000A. List $99.99, low $99.99. Cost per peak amp: $0.0200. No discount history in the data provided. Owner Tg upstate ny started a 30HP diesel tractor with a completely dead battery in 10°F weather—'fired up immediately.' Diane started a very dead car battery on the first try after extended sitting. Mal Reese said 'very powerful.' Safety score 2. Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown. Value is mid-pack on cost per amp, but the cold-weather diesel evidence is the best in this set. If you face real winters, the premium over the NEXPOW low is insurance.
Rank 6 — NOCO Boost GB150 3000A. List $119.99, low $119.99. Cost per peak amp: $0.0400. No discount history. Owner Ralph Englehart described it as 'very robust' with quality materials and gave a detailed discharge-then-full-charge procedure, noting the included USB charger is slow and a wall charger is faster. Safety score 3. Star rating 5/5 from the reviews shown. It is the most expensive per amp here, but the build quality and UltraSafe protections are the reason. This is the 'buy once, cry once' pick, not the value winner.
- NEXPOW 3000A: $79.99 list / $47.47 low; $0.0267 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 2/3.
- NOCO GB40: $89.99 list / $59.99 low; $0.0900 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 3/3.
- S ZEVZO ET03: $93.98 list / $53.99 low; $0.0235 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 2/3.
- OXILAM 6000A: $89.99 list / $59.99 low; $0.0150 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 2/3.
- Povasee 5000A: $99.99 list / $99.99 low; $0.0200 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 2/3.
- NOCO GB150: $119.99 list / $119.99 low; $0.0400 per amp list; 5/5 stars; safety 3/3.

Cheap but not good value
Two patterns look cheap but cost more later. First, no-name packs under $50 list with no reverse-polarity protection. You save $20 and risk a fried ECU or a melted clamp. The NEXPOW at its $47.47 low is the exception because it has a known safety cutoff and owner reports of months-long storage. Second, inflated peak amps with no Wh or CCA disclosure. A 6000A claim at $39.99 is marketing, not engineering. If the brand cannot tell you watt-hours or cold-cranking amps, you cannot calculate value, and you should assume the number is peak burst, not usable cranking power.
A third red flag is a missing wall charger. Ralph Englehart noted the NOCO GB150's included USB charger is slow and he bought a wall charger separately. That accessory cost belongs in your value math. If a cheap pack requires a $15–$25 wall charger to charge in a reasonable time, add it to the list price before comparing.
- Under $50 with no reverse-polarity cutoff: skip.
- 6000A claim with no Wh or CCA published: skip.
- Requires a separate wall charger to be practical: add that cost to the price.
When to stop optimising
Stop optimising when you hit a unit that has a safety cutoff, holds charge for six months, and has at least one owner report of starting an engine at or below 10°F or after months of storage. For most gas owners, the NEXPOW 3000A at its low or the NOCO GB40 at its low clears that bar. Paying more per amp after that buys packaging, brand, or capacity you will not use. If you drive a diesel tractor in a cold state, the Povasee review is the one that justifies the extra $20–$50. Otherwise, the marginal dollar is better spent on a wall charger and a case.
- Stop when: safety cutoff + 6-month storage + one verified cold or dead-battery start.
- For gas engines: NEXPOW or GB40 at low is enough.
- For cold diesel: Povasee's 10°F report is the stop signal.
