Digital vs analog tire pressure gauge
This is not a question of which technology is better — it is a question of which one you will use properly, in the conditions you actually check tires in. Both types are sold at every quality level, and a good dial beats a bad digital.
Where digital wins
The trade-off is a battery and electronics. A digital gauge that lives in a car through a cold winter is the one most likely to be flat when you need it, so either check it periodically or keep a mechanical backup.
- Readability: a backlit display is legible in a dark garage, at night, or through a wheel arch.
- Resolution: tenths of a pound, which makes small corrections repeatable.
- Hold function: some models keep the reading after the chuck is removed, useful where you cannot see the screen while pressing the chuck on.
- No parallax: you read a number, not a needle against a scale from an angle.
Where analog wins
The trade-offs are resolution and legibility: a needle is hard to read to better than half a pound, and it is harder still in poor light or when viewed at an angle. Mechanical gauges are also the type most likely to be knocked out of calibration without it being obvious.

The accuracy question

That said, a digital gauge makes calibration checks simpler: comparing two digital gauges gives you two numbers to compare, while two analog gauges require you to judge two needle positions.
A practical answer
If you check tires in a driveway in daylight and want one tool, a digital gauge with a hold function is the easier daily instrument. If the gauge lives in a vehicle through winter, or in a toolbox that gets thrown around, an analog gauge with a stated accuracy is the one that will still work when you reach for it.
The answer many drivers land on is one of each: a digital gauge for setting pressure at home, and a cheap mechanical one kept in the car as a cross-check.
