Rhino vs VIAIR Portable Tire Inflators: Specs & Owner Data

A data-first look at six Rhino and VIAIR portable tire inflators, using only owner-reported numbers and platform data. We rank by price, historical low, and review sentiment—not by lab tests we didn't run.
The metrics on this board
This board is built from numbers you can check yourself: current list price, historical low price, star rating, and review count. I did not run timed fill tests, so I am not going to invent them. Where a number is missing, it is marked n/a.
The four sorting metrics are: (1) list price in USD, sourced from the product listing at the time of writing; (2) historical low price in USD, sourced from the same listing’s price history; (3) star rating, sourced from the platform’s aggregate rating; and (4) review count, sourced from the platform’s total review tally. Owner-reported performance details—fill speed, noise, heat—are paraphrased separately and never treated as measured values.
- List price: platform listing price, USD.
- Historical low: platform price history, USD.
- Star rating: platform aggregate, out of 5.
- Review count: platform total, as displayed.

The board
The table below covers all six candidates. Missing values are marked n/a. Prices and ratings are platform data, not manufacturer claims. Owner review themes are summarized in the next section.
- Rhino USA Inflator Portable Compressor — list $84.80, low $49.90, rating 4.2 (132 ratings).
- VIAIR 00084 84P — list $86.94, low $86.94, rating 4.4 (724 ratings).
- VIAIR 00088 88P — list $103.95, low $89.89, rating 4.7 (8,095 ratings).
- VIAIR 400P — list $226.46, low $226.46, rating 4.7 (1,660 ratings).
- VIAIR 75P/00075 — list $80.67, low $80.67, rating 4.3 (108 ratings).
- VIAIR 85P — list $80.95, low $69.69, rating 4.5 (4,318 ratings).
Reading the board honestly
Two things are not comparable across these listings. First, the star ratings are rounded aggregates; review counts vary widely, from 108 to 8,095. A 4.2 from 132 reviews is not the same as a 4.7 from 8,095, but the platform data here does not let us weight them. Second, the historical low prices come from different tracking windows. A low of $49.90 on the Rhino may reflect a short promotional window, while the VIAIR 400P has never dropped below its list price in the data shown. Comparing those two lows directly would be misleading.
Also, owner-reported fill times and noise levels are not measured values. They are paraphrases of what buyers said, and they depend on tire size, starting pressure, and ambient temperature. I treat them as directional only.
- Star ratings are rounded aggregates; review counts vary, so weight is unknown.
- Historical lows come from different tracking windows and may not be equivalent.
- Owner-reported speed and noise are not measured test data.
Leaders in each metric
Lowest list price: VIAIR 75P/00075 at $80.67. Lowest historical low: Rhino USA Inflator at $49.90. Highest list price: VIAIR 400P at $226.46. Most owner-reported use cases: VIAIR 88P, with buyers citing SUV, pickup, and trailer tires. No metric here is a measured performance score, so there is no speed or accuracy leader on this board.
- List price leader: VIAIR 75P/00075 — $80.67.
- Historical low leader: Rhino USA — $49.90.
- Highest price: VIAIR 400P — $226.46.
- Most varied owner use cases: VIAIR 88P — SUV, pickup, trailer.
The overall pick
If I had to pick one from this board on price and owner sentiment alone, the VIAIR 88P is the most balanced. It sits mid-pack on list price at $103.95, has a real historical low at $89.89, and owners describe it reaching SUV and pickup tires with a 26 ft hose-plus-cable setup. One owner took a Land Rover tire from flat to 38 PSI in “just a few minutes” and noted the motor and hose get very hot—that is a heat-soak warning, not a defect, but it matters if you are filling four large tires back to back.
The counterexample is the Rhino USA. It has the lowest historical low at $49.90 and owners love the USB charging and small size, but the review excerpts are all 5-star with no negative data points. That is a thin sample. If you need to fill truck or RV tires above 50 PSI, the Rhino’s owner reviews do not cover that use case, and the VIAIR 400P is the only unit here with an owner reporting 80 PSI RV fills. Do not buy the Rhino for a 32-foot RV just because it is cheap.
- Overall pick: VIAIR 88P — mid price, real low, owner-reported SUV/trailer reach.
- Counterexample: Rhino USA — cheapest low, but thin review sample and no high-PSI owner reports.
- High-PSI alternative: VIAIR 400P — owner-reported 80 PSI RV fills, but $226.46 list.
